William (Bill) Romaniuk
1936 - 2019
William (Bill) Romaniuk of Edmonton and beloved husband of Mary Romaniuk passed away peacefully with his family by his side at the Sturgeon Community Hospital in St. Albert, Alberta, on December 5. He was 83 years old.
Bill was born in Wydranica, Poland, in what is now present-day Ukraine, on January 7, 1936, to parents Fred and Tatiany Romaniuk. He immigrated to Athabasca, Alberta shortly afterward with his sister and parents. He farmed for several decades in the Forfar district west of Athabasca and also operated an oil and gas plant. After retiring from farming, he worked as a casual school bus driver and a security guard in Athabasca. Later, when he and Mary moved to Edmonton to help with taking care of the grandchildren, he transported rental vehicles and volunteered to help seniors in the local community.
Besides his loving wife of 46 years, Mary, Bill is survived by his two daughters, Sharon (Kristof) Patkowski and Nancy (Darryl) Boyko, both of Edmonton, his sister, Nancy (Roy) Stark of Vancouver, and four grandchildren, Roman, Oksana, Aidan, and Dylan. Bill was blessed with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Tatiany Romaniuk, and a baby son, Michael.
Bill will be remembered as an excellent communicator with a humble heart who worked hard with and for his family, who loved music, discussing politics and who was, in many ways, “a force of nature.'
A private family service will be held at a later date.
