Chris Maton Obituary

With intense sadness and grief we share the loss of our lovely, intelligent, funny son, uncle, brother and father Chris Maton on April 5th 2022.

Chris was born on the 25th of October in Sittingbourne, Kent, England and came to Canada in 1975 with his mother Lyn and father Terry. Chris was the eldest of 15 children and attended K-12 in Prud’homme, Saskatchewan and later graduated from the University of Saskatchewan.

He moved to Alberta in 2001 and worked for the Athabasca University for 21 years. Chris was father to Megan Jackson, Sarah Jackson, Kayli Maton, Hannah Maton and Kaelan Maton. Chris was unrivalled expert in IT working for the Faculty of Science and Technology Team and a member of the IT Team. Chris was a valued member of the staff, well respected and a popular member of the university community as well as a great friend to many colleagues at AU.

Chris had many interests: travelling, swimming, cooking, spending time with family and friends and loved the outdoors. He had a caring nature and great sense of humour, always making others laugh. Chris was always there to help anyone especially those in need. The impact Chris had in our lives was profound and he will live on in the great memories that we shared with him. He was a great friend to so many and will be sorely missed.

“We don’t move on from loved ones we’ve lost, we move forward with them always in our hearts, all around us, in who we are and in all that we do in life.”

A private interment for family only will take place on Friday April 22nd in Athabasca, AB.
