It is with great sadness & much love that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Dan Dennis, who passed away on Nov 28, 2025 at the age of 81.
To all who knew him, Dan was truly a one of a kind soul; gentle, patient and endlessly kind. His quiet strength and warm presence were gifts he offered freely, and his legacy of kindness will remain in the hearts of many.
Dan will be remembered by his wife of 50 years Lorna, their children Cameron (Breana), Andrew (Trisha) and Jaime (Dustin) and his 6 grandchildren (Aaden, Ethan, Jace, Rylan, Emilie and Carter). He is also lovingly remembered by his older brother Brian (Janet) and countless extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Mora Dennis and his father and mother in law (Noah and Mary Shank).
Born in Ottawa and later making his home across Alberta, Dan built a life defined by devotion to family, meaningful work, and community service. He married Lorna in 1975 & together they raised 3 children who always knew their father as a calm, steady & compassionate presence. Professionally, Dan served his community for many years as a manger at Scotiabank, and later continued his career as a Financial Advisor with Investors Group, where he was known for his integrity and steady guidance.
A devoted grandfather, Dan cherished every moment spent with his grandchildren. They were the light of his life, & he never missed an opportunity to be part of their world. He gave generously of his time, volunteering wherever he could & offering help without hesitation. Dan was a strong supporter of his community. He was a dedicated Athabasca Rotary member since 1987. He volunteered any way he could. He supported his community quietly but wholeheartedly. He gave without expecting anything in return and was known in the community for his calm demeanour, selflessness & generosity. Whether offering a helping hand, thoughtful advice, or a quiet smile, he always tried to make life better for those around him.
Dans gentle spirit, big heart, and unwavering kindness, made him truly special. His absence will be felt deeply, but his goodness lives on in everyone who felt the warmth of his kindness. And for the reminder he leaves behind: that a gentle life can be a powerful one, and that kindness is a legacy that never fades.
May he rest in peace.
A Funeral Service will take place at the Athabasca United Church in Athabasca, Alberta on December 9th 2025 at 1pm. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
