Emil Kuffa

It is with great sadness that we had to say goodbye to our Uncle Emil.

Emil Kuffa passed away in the Athabasca Hospital on July 7, 2025 at the age of 91 after a brave battle with cancer.

Emil was born in Athabasca on August 15, 1933 and spent his entire life on the farm in the Grosmont area. Emil had a huge love for life and the outdoors which included hunting, trapping, and fishing. Anybody who know him and sat down with him were fortunate enough to hear all the stories of his adventures that he has done, and he loved sharing them. Emil was fortunate enough to be able to live on the farm his entire life up until his last six weeks which he spent in the hospital, he was a very independent person who was able to drive and with the aid of his two walking sticks, be able to get around anywhere he wanted to.

Emil will be forever remembered by his sister, Helen Laackmann, numerous nieces and nephews and their children and all of his great friends.

Emil was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Kuffa and brothers Albert (Yvonne), Lloyd, Frank (Mary) brother-in-law Helmut Laackmann.

Cremation has taken place and at Emil’s request there will be no service. At a later announced date there will be a family and friends gathering to remember a great man.

Emil had expressed many times to friends and family during visits of all the wonderful care and gratitude the doctors, nurses, and staff in the Athabasca Healthcare Centre had given him. Our families would like to thank the staff for treating him in such a caring way during his final days of life.
