Obituary

With profound sadness the family of Emil Zachkewich of Boyle, Alberta, announces the passing of their hero, their mentor, and their rock on November 7, 2022. Emil passed away unexpectedly at the age of 82 years on his 58th wedding anniversary in Kelowna, BC.

Emil leaves to mourn his loving wife Elaine; son Karl (Carole); and grandsons: Mark and Tanner Zachkewich; as well as son Ken (Lorrie); and granddaughters: Keira (Levi) Warkentin and McKenna Zachkewich; also, sisters-in-law: Stella Zachkewich and Connie (Dennis) Pysyk; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was predeceased by his father and mother: Tadeus Zachkewich and Jean Broton; step-father John Broton; his brother Tony Zachkewich; his sister Mary Pylypiuk; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Leonide and Jean Plamondon.

Emil thrived on his involvement in public life. From his roles in various co-operatives to student transportation, to multiple boards and political positions, Emil enjoyed working with people. He loved agriculture, hunting, fishing, and trapping. In his later years, his passions turned towards spending time with his grandchildren and travelling with his soulmate. His quick wit, thoughtful articulations, and willingness to stand up for his convictions will forever be missed.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 10:30am at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church in Boyle, AB, with interment to follow at the Spruce Valley Cemetery. Officiating will be Father Paulson.
