George Major passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 26th, 2025, at the age of 93 in Fort McMurray where he resided for the past year at the Willow Square Continuing Care Centre. George was born January 1st, 1932, in Neddie’s Harbour, Newfoundland to Emma and Eli Major. He was the oldest of 10 children.
George leaves to mourn his 5 children and their spouses: Wade and Maureen, Joy and Gordon, Holly and George, Monty and Lori, Robin, 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, his brothers and their spouses: Gerald and Margaret Major, Charles and Justine Major, his sisters, Marie and Milton Decker and Iris Barranger. Also, sisters in laws Joyce and Shirley Major, sister-in-law Ruby Goosney. He leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
George was predeceased by his loving wife (Isabel) of 70 years marriage, parents Eli and Emma Major, in laws Janet and Thomas Decker, sister Bertha and husband Irvin Reid, Cora and husband Lloyd Sparks, brothers Alvin, Jack and Arthur plus Isabels’ siblings and their spouses.
A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday December 2, 2025 at 11:00am at the All Saints Anglican Church in Athabasca.
