Jennie Josephine Zahara

With loving memories, we announce the passing of Jennie Zahara on Sunday, September 29, 2024 in Athabasca, Alberta, just shy of her 101st birthday.

 Jennie was born on September 30, 1923, in Poland to Thomas and Bernice Gorski. In 1931, she immigrated to Canada with her family, settling in the Richmond Park area, where she met the love of her life, Samuel Zahara. They married on August 24, 1944, and together they created a loving family. Jennie was a devoted mother to her five children: Raymond, Bernice, Lawrence, Lorraine, and Tom. She found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending countless hours on the farm, baking delicious treats, tending to flowers, playing cards and doing puzzles.

Throughout her long life, Jennie cherished the moments spent with family and friends and demonstrated an unwavering kindness that resonated deeply with all who knew her. Her warmth and compassion inspired those around her, creating a ripple effect of love that will be felt for generations to come. Jennie’s legacy is one of joy, connection, and the profound impact of a life well-lived.

She was predeceased by her parents: Thomas & Bernice, siblings: Michael, Edward, Adolph, husband: Samuel, children: Raymond, Lorraine, and many other family and friends. Left to honor and cherish her memory are her siblings: Walter Gorski, Julie (Walter) Galus, Mary Gerwatoski, children: Bernice Christensen, Lawrence Zahara & Tom (Brenda) Zahara, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.  

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 11:00 am at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church in Athabasca, with Father Aureus Manjares officiating.

Interment to follow at the Holy Ghost Cemetery in Richmond Park.
