Jocelyn Dawn Loken
1982-2020
On Friday, December 18, 2020, Jocelyn Loken of Athabasca, passed away at the Athabasca Healthcare Centre. Jocelyn chose to accept medical assistance in dying, something she had discussed many times. She was fiercely in support of the MAID program. We are so grateful that it was available to her when she needed it.
Jocelyn always said that she was not a fighter, or that she was battling cancer. You don’t win or lose, you just live; you live as well as you can and for as long as you can. She did both, and she did them exceptionally well. She endured cancer, and relied on every treatment and support that our medical system could offer, through to the final moment. She died exactly the way she planned, with loved ones close, and with every comfort that anyone could offer.
We can’t list all of the things that made her special and loved. She was our best friend, and we miss her so much. We hope that there is some part of her still alive with us because she’s taken a huge part of us with her.
Jocelyn is survived by her loving husband Geoff Loken, her father Daniel (Carol) Saskiw, sister Laura (Doug) Chiesa, and her loving nephews Jobe and Elijah.
She was predeceased by her mother Mary-Jo.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at the Athabasca Community Chapel between 1:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m.
