On January 1, 2023 John (Roy) Newberry of Athabasca passed away peacefully with family at his side at Extendicare Athabasca.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Lou Newberry (nee Saluk); his children: Dale Newberry, Brenda Pretula, Caroline (Daniel) Rainville, and Janet (Brian) Bauer; grandchildren: Derek (Alison) Pretula, Shalane Pretula , Krista (Beau) Cauchy, Erin Newberry (Jerry Galiwoda), Brittany Rainville, and Noah Rainville; step-grandchildren: Tara Lee Murray and Matthieu Rainville; great-grandchildren: Ashlyn, Jillian, Brooklyn, Donte’, Mya, Liam, Mason, Ellie, Hadley, and Emry; step-great-grandchildren: Stella, Blake, Ivy and Stark; his siblings: Betty Lou (Jack) Edwards, Dorothy Risdale, Melvin Newberry, Phyllis (Art) Lange, Joan Newberry, and Alfred (Rita) Newberry; half-sister Lorraine; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Roy was predeceased by his parents, George and Celina (Cartier) Newberry; his brothers: Louis, Shorty, and Phillip; his sisters: Maudie and Susie; and his son-in-law Lorne Pretula.
A viewing will be held on Friday, January 6th, 2023 from 6pm-8pm at Athabasca Community Chapel with all welcome.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 7th, 2023 at 11:00am at the All Saints Anglican Church with Reverend Terry Francis officiating, A reception is to follow at the Athabasca Seniors Centre.
Donations may be made to the Athabasca Healthcare Auxiliary Association or a charity of ones choice.
