Obituary

The family of Margaret Carol Irving are saddened to announce, after a 4-year battle with CIDP  (a rare neurological condition), she passed away on July 23, 2023, at the age of 75.

Margaret is survived by her loving husband of nearly 55 years, Dennis; three daughters: Ladine (Cory), Lorinda (Rob B.), and Leanne (Chadwick); grandchildren: Meghan (Tyler), Damon (Leah), Kenzi (Colton), Katie, Ethan, Cooper, Beckett, and Ethan; her siblings: Don (Shirley), Brian, and Marion(Mike); nieces and nephews: Darren, Stefanie (Sarmad), Kevin (Heather), Dean (Erin), and Kerri (Nick); brother-in-law Robert and his son Rob; as well as numerous extended family and friends in Edmonton, Athabasca, and Whispering Hills.

She is predeceased by her parents, Fred and Alice Tercier.

Born in Edmonton, she grew up on the family farm in Duhamel and later moved to Camrose in the year 1961.  She married the love of her life, Dennis, in 1968 and together they raised three girls in Sherwood Park, AB. As a family, they often went camping & had many crazy adventures with friends old & new.

Marg’s interests spanned crafts, hobbies, and activities including, reading, sewing, knitting, needlepoint, painting, building lego, and golf. She spent many years involved in Girl Guides and greatly enjoyed it. At the age of 34, Marg & Dennis decided they should learn to ski - so they did! Many, many great family ski weekends followed, creating memories lasting a lifetime.

After owning a crafter’s marketplace “Treasure Barrel” in Edmonton for 11 years, Marg and Dennis moved to “The Lake “in 2005. They spent their days golfing, fishing, and generally enjoying retirement.  The two of them loved traveling together and hanging out with friends and family. They expanded the cabin to add in more room for guests & grandkids. The boat shed had enough toys & life jackets for everyone aged 0 to 100! There was always at least one grandchild around on any given summer day. Grammie loved to find new (& messy!) things to do with the grandkids.  Marg & Dennis were famous for hosting great family & friends party weekends, including the famous September long weekend “Lobster Jam.”  The last big party was a celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary.  Everyone was always welcome to come to the lake!

The family would like to thank everyone who helped with her care in the past 4 years. The staff at the Athabasca Hospital & home-care nurses were always kind & thoughtful. Her physiotherapist, Katelyn, helped Marg remain as mobile & independent as possible. The EMS teams who came to the house many times, were patient & reassuring when times were stressful. Dr Rousseau in Athabasca and her Neurologist, Dr Cecile Phan, navigated a confusing & tricky disease with kindness & grace.

Marg will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The family will be hosting an open house on September 3, 2023 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm at 111 Allen Drive, Whispering Hills.
