Margot Kindt Obituary

February 14, 2025 (Date of Passing, peacefully at Athabasca Hospital)

MARGOT Franziska Marie KINDT (nee: Kuentz) also known as Margo, passed peacefully in Athabasca at the age of 94. Predeceased by her husband, Lothar Kindt (21 September 2019). At the time of Lothar’s passing, they had been married for 64 years. They both were born and raised in Berlin, Germany and were married there. Both Manuel (son) and Katharina (Kathy, daughter) were born there as well.

The family immigrated to Canada in 1961 to avoid the incoming chaos that was about to happen in Germany. They left behind all their friends and family to start anew. They lived in southern Ontario for a few years then arrived in Athabasca in the summer of 1967. In 1970, they built their family home north across the river.

Margot was able to quickly establish herself as an artist and helped to start the Athabasca Art club, where she taught art in the Old Brick school. She was teaching art through the University of Alberta Extension department. Margo has also received many awards for her art. She was commissioned by the Town of Athabasca to do a painting of Athabasca to celebrate the Centennial year.  The original is now hanging in the Town office.

You would often see her walking around town, very well dressed and in the wintertime with a blue scarf wrapped around her head or a stylish hat. She could also be seen around the county at different times and places and seasons, either with other artists with easels set up or cross-country skiing in the winter.

She was always easy to spot in a crowd, either by her outstanding beauty or her headband or when she drove around in her red Volkswagen. Those were the days!!

She will be sadly missed and always remembered by Manuel & Lorette Kindt, Kevin & Kathy Clow and their children. (Caryn, Angela, Niki, Tina, Jason and Johnathon and their spouses along with 13 great grandchildren)

Many thanks go out to Dr. Leon Burger and Dr. Michael Burger and staff at the clinic and Athabasca Hospital for the kindness and care that was given to our parents over the many years they were your patients. Also, the staff at Extendicare are very much appreciated for showing them the respect and care needed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
