Melvin John Schell

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Melvin John Schell of Athabasca, Alberta, who passed away peacefully on September 1, 2025 at the age of 86.

Melvin was born on February 21, 1939, in Pelly, Saskatchewan. In 1978, he moved from Edmonton to Athabasca with his children, where he built a life filled with family, hard work, and lasting friendships. Melvin retired from Athabasca Home Hardware at the age of 65, after many years of dedicated service to the community.

He is lovingly remembered by his sons: Warren (Irene) and their children Warren, Robin, and Gabriella; John and his children Kelly and Cheryl; and Mike and his children Reanne and Derick. He is also fondly remembered by the children of his late son Derrick: Donalda, Jasmine, and Jeffery. Melvin’s memory will also be cherished by his dear friend of 27 years, Gladys Taylor, as well as by his many great-grandchildren and extended family.

Melvin will be deeply missed by all who knew him for his steady presence, quiet strength, and devotion to his loved ones.

There will be a funeral service September 19th, 2025 at 11am at the Anglican Church in Athabasca.
