Neil Edward Galus

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Neil Edward Galus.  Neil passed away suddenly on January 28, 2022 at the age of 55.

Neil was born to Edward and Jean Galus on July 26, 1966, in Spirit River, AB.  He grew up and attended school in Athabasca, graduating from Edwin Parr Composite High in 1984.  In 1986, Neil started at NAIT and in 1988, he became a Journeyman Partsman.

Neil began his career with Ford pumping gas at Landing Ford and after certification began his commitment to parts.  Neil worked at Koch Ford and recently celebrated 40 years of service to Ford.

Neil was also very dedicated to his community.  He helped in many aspects of the community including the Kinsmen Club, a term on town council, years as a board member for Words Work Literacy and nearly 30 years as an Auxiliary Constable for the RCMP.

In 2008, Neil met his partner Camela.  Together they spent time travelling, camping at the farm, and spending time with family and friends.  A highlight of their travels was spending his 50th birthday in Dublin, Ireland.

Neil was predeceased by his parents Edward and Jean Galus.  He is survived by his spouse Camela, sisters Charlene (John) Borys and Iris (Malcolm) Roskewich, brother-in-law Darcy Dierker; 7 nieces and nephews Evan and Denine (Kris) Reid, Brandon (Mackenzie), Nathaniel (Dayle) and Chantelle Borys, Rayce and Adanna Dierker.

Neil will be remembered and missed by many.  He always had time to stop and talk.  He always had a smile on his face, a joke to tell you and a positive outlook on life. 

Friends may pay their respects on Monday, February 7th, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Athabasca Community Chapel. Due to Covid restrictions, a private family service will be held.
