Peter Opryshko Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing on September 5th, 2024 of Peter Eugene Opryshko - teacher, farmer, adventurer, world traveler, music promoter, historian, political agitator, environmentalist, community builder, frequent CBC call-in show contributor, heartfelt Ukrainian Catholic, storyteller, beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Peter was born on May 2, 1942, on a family homestead in Prosperity, Alberta. Peter would often joke that Prosperity no longer existed in Alberta, but through his advocacy he made sure it was put back on the map.

Peter spent much of his life building communities in every place he lived, and his impact will be felt for a very long time.

Peter is survived by his wife Donna; children Anna (Gilbert) and Stefan (Krystal); grandson Xavier; sisters Rose and Olga (Gordon); numerous nieces and nephews; and by the countless people who he befriended, taught, organized, argued and sang with, and travelled alongside.

Funeral services will be held on September 14th, at 11am
Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church
Township Rd 675, Range Rd 193
