Richard Cook, 75 of Athabasca, passed away on Monday Aug 26th.
Rick was born on Oct 9th, 1948, in Edmonton. Rick was raised on a farm in Tulliby Lake, Alberta.
Rick farmed and operated equipment in the area for years, before moving to Fort McMurray to work at Suncor for 24 years as an equipment operator, blaster and process operator retiring to Athabasca in 2005.
In 1974, Rick met Linda Krissa at Elk Point where they raised Lorne and Laura at Tulliby Lake and then in Fort McMurray.
In 2005, Rick retired and kept busy doing carpentry work helping out friends as well as continuing to run a sand dryer for a friend’s company. He was a skilled operator and loved the challenge of optimizing how his equipment was run.
Rick was predeceased by his adopted parents Doug and Glad Cooke, brothers Donald Parliament, Ray Wilkining, Roy Bekolay, Dwayne Bryant, and sister Margret Parliament. He is survived by his wife by Linda, Son Lorne (Shannon), Daughter Laura, Grandchildren Greg (Keisha), Brianna (Jesse) and great grandchildren. Brothers Bob (Ann) Cooke, Bill (Jean) Wilkining, David (Linda) Wallace, Duane (Lucy) Wallace and sister Karen (David) Cerkoniak.
A service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to Stars Air ambulance, an organization Rick felt strongly about.
