It is with great sadness, that we announce the passing of Robert (Bob)Saluk of Athabasca, Alberta, who passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the early morning hours of November 23, 2025 at the age of 83 years.
Bob was born on February 25, 1942 to Mike and Julia Saluk in Goldfields, Saskatchewan, which was on the east end of Lake Athabasca. He came home from the hospital in a dogsled.. This was a fitting welcome to a life lived by a man who loved adventure and time spent outdoors..
Bob is survived by his wife of 49 years Christine, his sons, Mark, Chad, and Brian and his daughter Julie. Bob was happy to welcome his daughter-in-law Chelsea (Brian’s wife) into the family and and was a proud grandpa to Alexis, Dessa and Ella.
Bob is also survived by his siblings: Pat Kosirowski, MaryLou Newberry, Julianne (Laurier) Nobert), Dorothy Wilson and Dan Saluk. His brothers-in- law Tony (Elaine) Bosik and Gary Sanford, and his sisters-in-law Nancy Beaton and Severna Bosik as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was predeceased by his parents, Julia and Mike Saluk, his sister, Frances Sanford , sister in law Marcy Talbot, brothers-in-law Don Beaton, Dan Bosik, John Bosik, Ken Wilson and Roy Newberry and parents in-law Bill and Ann Bosik.
Bob had a wonderful sense of humour which balanced a determined spirit. His physical strength was commented on by many who knew him as “the strongest man I know.”
Bob liked to tease and was quick with a quip, a wink and a smile. Bob spent many years working in oilfield construction and seismic activity throughout Alberta, BC, Yukon, and NWT. His work hard & play hard will be missed by all who knew him.
A viewing will be held at the Athabasca Community Chapel on Thursday, November 27 from 6 to 8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 28 at 11 AM at the Athabasca Missionary Church with interment and lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and NWT.
A special thank you to the staff of Healing Hearts, Athabasca Healthcare Centre, and Extendicare Athabasca for the care they all provided to Bob as his health began to decline.
Bob will be missed but not forgotten.
