Victoria Onusko Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Victoria Katie Onusko (nee Mandryk). She passed on the evening of Sunday, December 18, 2022, after many years of living with Alzheimer's.

Vicki was born April 29, 1932 in Landscape, Saskatchewan. She was a dedicated mother who was always protecting and providing for her children and working long, hard days as a production accountant at Esso Resources. Vicki would then spend long hours on weekends and evenings on the farm to make a better life for all. Her passion for cooking and baking was bestowed upon all during large traditional family gatherings at Christmas, Easter, birthdays, and family events. Vicki, an avid gardener, had the farm garden bursting with fresh fruit and vegetables and flower beds in full bloom – you’d always find a vase of fresh-cut flowers on the kitchen table in the summer months. Her large pantry was filled with pickles, fruit, relishes, jams, and her freezers full of vegetables, pies, bread, buns, and cookies. Singing and music were other passions for Vicki, and she generously shared her beautiful voice often. It was her last and only method of communication after Alzheimer’s robbed her of the ability to speak.

Vicki was predeceased by her parents: Dan and Zona Mandryk; her siblings: Mary Griffin, Elizabeth Houle and Donald Mandryk; and her stillborn baby, Gregory Blaine.

She is survived by her sister, Stephanie Nestegard of Coquitlam, BC; her children: Joanne (Tom), Zona, Linda (Nelson), Kelly (Nicole) and Kim; was the proud and doting grandmother to ten grandchildren: Tommy (Carrie), Kristi, Angela, Carly (Bree), Deanna (Brad), Jake, Brenden, Bryce, Hugh, and Ella; also leaving behind her many great-grandchildren: Hyland (Ashley), Gage, Simon, Melissa, Sydney, Eric, Ben, Maggie, and Blake; and her great-great-grandchildren: Hannah and Henry.

Vicki was always welcoming, loving, and generous in spirit and heart. Our mother will be missed dearly but her memory will live on through the traditions and skills that she taught, her recipes that she shared, and the songs that she loved to sing.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family asks that in lieu of sending flowers, please contribute to the Alzheimer’s Society and please share cherished memories of Vicki below.
