BENCHARSKY, David Peter
David passed peacefully with family by his side on February 26, 2017 at the age of 73 at Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre after a struggle with many health issues.
He will be lovingly missed and remembered by his sons Dathan (Sheri) with their children Kaitlyn & Shelby, and Dale (Jennifer) with their children Dallan & Jade; sisters Diane (William) Cherniwchan and Sylvia Androsoff; brothers Harold (Emily) Bencharsky and Julian (Deena) Bencharsky; as well as numerous family members and friends.
David lived a full life. His fond memories of playing and coaching baseball, curling, fishing & hunting, and his love of farming showed how much he enjoyed the great outdoors. He was always involved with local politics as a County of Athabasca Councillor, Village of Boyle Councillor, and he sat as a member on numerous boards always rallying for better services, battling budgets and trying to meet the needs of the community.
He was born and raised in the Boyle area, moved to Edmonton for a few years. He met his loving wife at a dance in Ardrossan and within the year they were married on June 6, 1964. He worked as a member of the Edmonton City Police, but his heart was always in Boyle. They decided after having 2 young boys that they did not want them raised in the city, so they purchased a farm just north of Boyle in 1969 and that is where they settled until retiring in 2002. They sold the farm to Dathan and his family and moved to a little house with a white picket fence in the Village of Boyle.
Pre-deceased by his wife Dianne in January 2016. He has now joined his soulmate and the love of his life. His heart was never the same once he lost her and now they are both at peace, back in each other’s arms.
As per David’s wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral will be held. A family memorial will be held in the spring to celebrate David’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the new Boyle Seniors Drop in Centre. It was a dream of his to have a new place for the Seniors of Boyle and he was so happy that the dream came true.
