Mr. Ed Sundby of Athabasca, beloved husband of Mrs. Vivian Sundby, passed away peacefully in Athabasca on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the age of 70 years.
Ed was born in Athabasca on August 17, 1947. He met the love of his life Vivian in school. They later went onto marry on March 15, 1969. They had their first child, a son, Ed Sundby Jr. in 1973. They had their second child, a daughter, Joy Mayne in 1978. Ed and Vivian lived in Edmonton, Calgary & Grande Prairie for Ed’s work before settling back in Athabasca in 2012 when Ed retired.
Ed was an avid outdoorsmen. He enjoyed hunting, quading, camping, fishing, and golfing with family and friends. As well as working on vehicle restoration in his spare time. He was a great husband, father, and friend. He was loved by many.
Ed is survived by his loving wife Vivian, son Ed Sundby Jr. (Rachel), his daughter Joy Mayne (Denny), his 2 grandsons Lake Mayne (Katie) and Reed Sundby. His 2 sisters Judy Rendle (Trevor) and JoAnne Gilson (Brent). His brothers, Tom Sundby, Gordon Sundby (Cindy), David Sundby (Florence), Doug Sundby (Colleen), Doug Bekker and Ken Bekker (Cindy), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and their families.
Ed was predeceased by his father Oscar Sundby, his mother Pauline Bekker and stepfather John Bekker.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Athabasca Missionary Church with Pastor Marty Hays officiating.
Ed’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and all of the healthcare staff at the Athabasca Healthcare Centre for all of their hard work and compassion.
