Frances Elizabeth (Saluk) Sanford

May 13, 1952 — February 21, 2025

Send flowers

Fran passed away in the early hours of February 21, 2025 at the University of Alberta Hospital of injuries that she suffered from a fall at home. She is the beloved wife of Gary for 38 wonderful years; and much loved sister of Patricia, Marylou (late Roy), Robert (Christine), Julie (Laurier), Dorothy (late Kenneth), and Daniel; as well as the cherished Auntie of many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Mike and Julia Saluk. Fran worked for Canada Customs for 35 years, her career taking her from Edmonton, where at the age of 22, she was the first woman to manage a Customs operation at an international airport in Canada to Ottawa where she met her future husband Gary. They married at the  Athabasca Falls lookout in Jasper Park on March 31, 1987. In 2019, they moved from Ottawa to St. Albert to be closer to family.

Our heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff of the Choice Dickensfield day-program who helped Fran manage the challenges of her Lewy Body Dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. Working as a team, they helped to give Fran a quality of life that otherwise wouldn’t  have been possible. Special thanks to her physician, Dr. Hyun Ju Sung who steadfastly supported Fran every step of the way over the past four years of her illness. Words alone cannot express how much we appreciate Dr. Sung’s superb medical care and her humanity. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Choice Program at www.capitalcarefoundation.net.

Cremation has taken place. Service to take place at a later date.
