Gerald Bulmer
1923-2018
On Friday, June 8, 2018, Gerald Allan Bulmer passed away at the age of 94 in Athabasca. He was predeceased by his parents and several siblings; his wife, Betty Bulmer, their daughter, Teresa Bulmer, and their grandson, Shane Allan Bulmer.
He will be forever remembered by his children, Gerry (Ruth) Bulmer and Dennis (Kathy) Bulmer; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; his surviving siblings and other family.
Gerald was born in Lestock, Saskatchewan. He later moved to Alberta with his parents and lived and worked in various places over the years, including Queenstown, Rocky Mountain House, Gunn, on a farm near Onoway (where he met Betty), Edmonton, Boyle, New Pine Creek District and Athabasca.
His work history included bush camps, farming, a base metal mine, hauling the Merry-Go-Round for Leader Shows (a travelling carnival), running and hauling the Ferris Wheel for the carnival, driving taxi, and hauling lumber and goods, sometimes with his own truck, sometimes with company trucks. He also worked for several lumber companies and this led to his employment with Pelican Spruce Mills in Boyle in 1978, where he worked until his retirement in 1988.
In 1982, Gerald and Betty designed and began building a house on family land in the New Pine Creek area. Completed in 1983, they moved into their new home, achieving their dream of living in a natural setting surrounded by nature.
After Betty passed away in 1993, Gerald lived in their home for a few more years before moving closer to Athabasca. In 2012 he moved into Pleasant Valley Lodge, where he happily resided until his passing.
