Send flowers

Harry Czwil, beloved husband of the late Lena Czwil, passed away peacefully at the Westlock Health Care Centre on March 5, 2017 at the age of 91 years.

He leaves to mourn his children Darlene Hales, Jeanette Marche of Westlock, Dwayne Czwil, Dale Czwil (Margaret) and Dean Czwil all of Athabasca as well as 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren immensely.

He also leaves to mourn his sisters Helen (Lorne) Jones of Winfield, Sophie Davidoff of Vancouver, BC and brother Steve Martyniuk and sister-in-law Joan Martyniuk of Athabasca as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

Harry was born in Poland on December 4, 1925 to parents Mary and William Czwil. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 5 and attended school at Narrow Lake. After leaving school he went to work on a farm at Legal during the summer months and in the winter he worked in lumber camps. This is where he would later meet Lena Pauquette.

In 1943 Harry bought his first quarter section of land and he cleared and broke 15 acres by horse and plow in the first year. Lena and Harry married in Meanook on August 12, 1952 and together raised their 5 children. In 1955 he bought a school bus and for 13 years drove the children from White Clover to Athabasca. Harry and Lena farmed up until 1991 when they retired and moved to Westlock.

Harry loved playing cards and crib with neighbours and friends. Another pastime he enjoyed was fishing and hunting. The excitement in his eyes when he would catch the “Big One” was priceless.

Harry was predeceased by his parents Mary Martyniuk in 2006 and William Czwil in 1985, stepfather Paul Martyniuk in 1996.

A Funeral Service will be held for Harry on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at 11:00am at the Athabasca Missionary Church followed by the interment in Meanook Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Westlock Healthcare Centre Hospital Equipment Fund.
