On July 13, 2017, Jean Galus (nee Barbarich) passed away at the Athabasca Healthcare Centre after a short battle with cancer. She was 79 years old.
Jean is survived by her son Neil (Camela) Galus, daughters Charlene (John) Borys and Iris (Malcolm) Reid as well as 5 grandchildren Evan and Denine Reid, Brandon (Mackenzie), Nathaniel and Chantelle Borys all of Athabasca. Jean will be remembered by her siblings Marco Barbarich of Grande Prairie, John (Kathy) Barbarich of Rycroft and Ann Sekulich of Edmonton.
She was predeceased by her husband Ed, parents Nick and Barbara Barbarich and sisters Mary Sekulic and Pauline Shymr.
Jean attended school in silverwood and worked on the family farm in Rycroft until she married Ed in 1965. They started a family and made their home in Athabasca where Jean was a homemaker.
A Family Funeral Service was held on July 17, 2017 at the Athabasca Community Chapel.
The children and grandchildren of Jean Galus wish to thank everyone for their condolences, prayers, visits and support during the loss of our mom and grandma. It was overwhelming to experience the kind and caring nature of all our family and friends. Mom would be proud to know everyone was so wonderful to all of us.
A special thank you to everyone who went to visit mom in the hospital, the Athabasca Healthcare Centre Staff for their amazing care, the Athabasca Community Chapel for their personal and professional nature and to Monica Rosborough for her personal and hockey themed sermen; mom would have loved that. Once again thank you to everyone.
