Joe Lachance
1949-2018
On Saturday October 6th, 2018 the world lost an incredible man.
Joe Lachance was born on December 20th, 1949, the eldest child of Fred Lachance and the late Margaret Lachance. He lived his childhood in the community of Paxson near Boyle, with his 2 brothers and 4 sisters. He eventually left the area, moving to Regina, Saskatchewan where he met and married his wife of 45 years, Anita. They went on to have a son, James, while living in the Regina area, and a daughter, Leah, after relocating back to the Paxson area.
An avid outdoorsman, Joe spent much of his time camping, fishing, hunting, gardening, and rockhounding, most of the time accompanied by one or several of his kids or grandkids, and nearly always by his wife. Drawn to abundance, it would be unusual for Joe not to have enough potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers, and squash planted to feed several families in any given summer. He could identify nearly every sparkly rock that a child showed him and was just as quick to label them ‘leaverites’. He wasn’t perfect, and never pretended to be, which was one of the qualities that made him likeable by anyone who met him. He was a loyal employee of JLG Ball Enterprises of Boyle for the last 28 years, holding various positions over the years. He considered them more than employers, counting them among his friends. One of his most favourite things to do was to go with his son, grandsons, and a couple of friend’s backcountry camping and hunting in the fall each year. This was something he began looking forward to several months in advance each year, and despite being weakened by cancer, and feeling very unwell, he was able to go on his last hunting trip this year.
Joe is survived by his wife Anita; son James; daughter Leah; daughter by marriage Claudette; son by marriage Marty; his grandchildren Emily, Stephen, Joseph, Javan, Farrah, Kendra, and Halen; his father Fred; siblings and their families; and numerous other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by his mother, Margaret.
No formal service will be held at this time.
