Send flowers

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Karl Udo Paetschke. Beloved husband, father and friend to many he passed away peacefully in the early morning of July 2, 2026 shortly after is 81st birthday.

Born on June 26, 1945 in Herten, Germany, Karl, the only son of Anna and Udo Paetschke came to Canada in 1969 to start an adventure which would be the rest of his life as a Red Seal Chef. Marrying Mavis, his devoted wife of 50 years February 21, 1976 he lived a life defined by love, kindness, integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family. A proud father of 3 girls, Beate, Sarah (Warren) and Erin (Trevor) he was also blessed to be a grandfather to Codi, Ellyse, Alea and Wesley (Alan). He was also a loyal friend to many more serving the community of Fort McMurray, Alberta as a successful business owner since 1982.

Known for his hard work and dedication as a chef for more than 60 years, he also had a deep love for fishing dreaming of being a professional angler. Summers at Christina Lake, with a rod in hand surrounded by family and friends were among the happiest times in his life.

Although our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort in knowing that his love, values, and legacy will continue to live on in those of us he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in our hearts.

A celebration of life for Karl will be held on September 26, 2026 in Fort McMurray at The Fish Place from 2-6pm. In lieu of flowers, our family kindly requests that donations be made to a local animal rescue or animal welfare organization in his honour.

"I succeeded in spite of it all"
