Mary Romaniuk of Edmonton passed away peacefully at home with her family on October 12, 2026, following a brief illness with pancreatic and liver cancer. She was 75 years old.
Mary was born in Edmonton, Alberta, to Stephan and Anastasia Kozoriz. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School and briefly attended NAIT before meeting her husband, William (Bill) Romaniuk. They married in 1971 and spent several decades working on the family farm near Athabasca, Alberta. Together, they raised two daughters, Sharon and Nancy.
Later in life, Mary worked in retail in Athabasca and as a Home Support Aide. After she and Bill moved to Edmonton, she worked for several years at Costco. Mary enjoyed visits with her adult children and grandchildren, as well as regular trips to BC with Bill to visit extended family. They also frequently returned to Athabasca to visit friends.
In recent years, Mary participated in several crib and floor curling tournaments, where she made many new friends.
Mary will be remembered for her warm smile, friendly nature, and caring spirit. She was also known for her strong work ethic. Despite the rapid progression of her illness, Mary faced her final weeks with grace and quiet strength.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Sharon (Kristof) and Nancy (Darryl), both of Edmonton; her four grandchildren, Roman, Oksana, Aidan and Dylan; and her brothers, Joe, Mike and Gene. She was also blessed with many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Bill, in December 2019; a baby son born prematurely, Michael; her parents, Stephan and Anastasia; her brother, Peter; her sisters, Anna and Stella; her sister-in-law, Nancy; her brother-in-law, Roy; her nephew, Mike; and other relatives and friends.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
