Peter was born in Bowness (now Calgary) Alberta, to Dunc and Louie, on May 3, 1948 – a second child to his parents and best friend to his older brother Don. Peter and Don spent many years adventuring and learning life lessons together in Calgary, Edmonton and all over Alberta as they grew up, keeping their parents on their toes.
A classic cowboy to his core, Pete lived the country lifestyle his whole life. He taught his 3 kids, Mike, Jodi and Donny, how to cuss, ride horses and appreciate the simple life. We will forever cherish the memories of him – our favourite ones always have him in a black cowboy hat, faded jeans and worn in boots, singing some old Marty Robbins tune while he went about his business.
In 2001 he met the love of his life, Bonnie, and in 2003 they were married. Pete was lucky enough to welcome Lyndsey, Mandy and Lee into his family and into his life where he cared for them like they were his own kids. He and Bonnie had a lasting romance until she left us in late June of 2026 – we will swear up and down that Dad died of a broken heart – he loved her like nothing else.
Dad’s other joy in life was his work family from both Renaissance/Husky Energy and Trident Exploration. He loved his job in the patch – it was not only his workplace but his social scene too – he knew a lot about the industry and was a mentor to many over the years. He strongly supported his kids as they took on their own careers in oil and gas, it was a family industry that he was so proud of.
Dad leaves to mourn his kids; Mike and Carrie, Jodi and Ryan, Donny and Krista, Lyndsey and Bryan, Mandy and Chaston, and Lee. He was the proudest Poppa to Lucas (Josee), Jake (Jamie), Hailey, Steele, Karley, Carson, Graison, Gage, Tye and Stetson. He worked all of his life plans around watching rodeo, hockey, soccer and a host of other activities the kids were in – he and Bonnie could always be counted on to be in the stands or watching on tv from home, cheering the loudest.
The deep sadness of losing Pete will also be felt by his brother Don, and his wife Judy, who was always like a sister to him. Their boys Damian (Heather) and Nathan (Lyndsey) will miss Uncle Pete greatly, as will their families.
Peter will always have a special place in the hearts of Bonnie’s family as well; Doug and Vera Brown, Murray and Donna and family; Colleen and Bernie and family; Terry and family.
A plethora of friends will also miss Pete, he had friends in every town and across the province – and we hold dear Greg, Mack, Rob, John and Lyle. We hope their memories of Pete will carry them through this time of sadness.
Peter was predeceased by his cherished wife Bonnie, his parents Allan and Louise, his brother-in-law Dwight and his good friends Fred, Eddie and Rick. They will be waiting to receive him with open arms; this we are sure of.
Peter’s family would like to thank Dr. Inga and the staff at the Athabasca Hospital for their professionalism, grace and kindness in their care of our Dad – our community is so lucky to have such an amazing team taking care of its people. We would love for you to bring them a coffee or a box of donuts the next time you are in the neighbourhood.
There will be a private family service at a later date, but in the meantime, raise a glass in Dad’s memory. Thank you for being a part of his life.
