Phoenix McLean passed away Edmonton Alberta at the age of 37 after a long struggle with liver disease. He is survived by his parents Wayne and Holly McLean, and his brother Seaton McLean.

Phoenix was a graduate of both the Retail Meat Cutting and the Culinary programs at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology. He worked as both a butcher and a chef and was known for his love of food and his catering and culinary capabilities. Phoenix was also a sommelier. He had a keen palate and his background in culinary gave him special insights into parings and menu development.

Phoenix decided to change his vocation and enrolled in NAIT’s Electrical Engineering Technology program – which he successfully completed. He was looking forward to starting work in that field just as he was lastly admitted to hospital.

Phoenix’s friends and family are holding a celebration of his life on July 5th in Edmonton at the Whitemud Creek Community Centre.  His remains have been cremated. He will be interred next to his grandparents, Helen and Tommy McLean in the Athabasca Cemetery.
