It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Rudolph "Rudy" Wiselka on September 8, 2026, at the age of 88 years, at the Sturgeon Community Hospital.
Rudy was born on March 15, 1938, in Athabasca, Alberta, the second son of George Sr. and Mary Wiselka. Throughout his life, Rudy remained deeply proud of his roots and was a devoted supporter of the community he loved.
Rudy was predeceased by his parents, George and Mary Wiselka; his beloved wife of 50 years, Anne Wiselka; his daughter, Tracey; his son, Wayne; his grandson, Adam Stychin; and his siblings Emira, Rosie, Elsie, and George Jr.
He leaves to mourn his daughter Angela Stychin and son-in-law Terry Stychin of St. Albert; his cherished grandchildren Taylor (Nick) Earle, Justin Stychin, and Mark Stychin; his son Gary Ward and daughter-in-law Sandra Ward of Ontario; his brother Chester (Jeannie) Wiselka of Athabasca; and his twin sisters Shirley (Wilf) Brooks and Sylvia (Dave) Herbert of Sherwood Park. Rudy will also be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless friends.
Rudy's commitment to the Athabasca community was evident in everything he did. Alongside his wife Anne, he generously supported local events and organizations, sponsoring ball tournaments, curling bonspiels, chuckwagon races, and fiddlers' competitions. Through Rudy's Construction and his long-standing partnership with his dear friend Frank Rojowski in Double R Forest Products, Rudy contributed significantly to community development. His efforts helped rebuild the rodeo track at the Athabasca Agricultural Society, supported numerous local initiatives, and played an important role in transforming the Athabasca Golf & Country Club from a modest 9-hole course into the beautiful 18-hole facility enjoyed today.
Following a camping trip that sparked a vision for the future, Rudy recognized the need for a campground that would not be affected by flooding. Together with his wife, Anne, they created Blueberry Hill RV Park, providing a place for visitors to stay while supporting local tournaments, the golf course, and tourism in Athabasca.
A hard worker with an adventurous spirit, Rudy found ways to stay busy with both work and play right up to the very end. His generosity, community spirit, determination, and unwavering love for Athabasca will be remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at the Athabasca Community Chapel on Monday September 14, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday September 15, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at the Athabasca Missionary Church. Pastor Al Plat officiating, with a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests that donations be made to the Athabasca Healthcare Centre Auxiliary Association or Road to Hope in Rudy's memory.
