1948-2017

Trevor Kellington Cripps passed away suddenly at the age of 69 on Monday, November 6, 2017 at Island Lake, Alberta. Born on April 1, 1948, he was predeceased by his mother and father, Freda and Lawrence Cripps, and his brother Gordie Cripps. Trevor is survived by his wife, Connie of 45 years, his daughter Tanya (Ryan) Duckworth and his two grandchildren Brett and Claire.

Growing up on the family farm at Norgate, Manitoba, Trevor went to school at Norgate and later at Kelowood, Manitoba.

Trevor moved to Winnipeg to get his carpentry ticket, where he worked at CN Rail. In 1972 he moved to Kitamat, B.C. where he worked at the Eurocan Pulp Mill for three years. In 1976 he moved to Alberta where he found work up in the oil sands at Fort McMurray. He worked as a carpenter / scaffolder until he retired in 2011.

Connie and Trevor were married in 1972 at Banff, Alberta. They lived in Kitamat then settled in Athabasca, AB. Connie and Trevor built a house at Island Lake in 1981, where they enjoyed lake life, boating in the summer and skiidooing in the winter.

Trevor was an avid fisherman, and spent hours out on his boat. He enjoyed taking his grandson fishing, even if Brett got bored quickly. Trevor enjoyed when his grandchildren came for a visit. He could always be found on the floor playing with the kids or curled up on the couch reading stories.

The Cripps’ Annual Fishing Derby was a yearly highlight that families looked forward to. For 33 years, family friends have been coming to the Cripps’ where Trevor kept the fire going and the laughs coming.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, November 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Athabasca District Seniors Centre.
