It is with deep sadness that the family of Gary McDermid announces his passing, on August 28, 2025, just days shy of his 80th birthday.
Gary was born in Kingston, Ontario, and spent much of his youth in Calgary, Alberta, where he met his future wife and lifelong partner, Yvonne. The couple eventually settled in St. Albert, Alberta, where they raised their two children. In 1979, Gary and Yvonne discovered a property at Baptiste Lake, near Athabasca, Alberta, which became a cherished retreat and where Gary spent his post-retirement years.
Gary is lovingly remembered by his wife, Yvonne (née Jarbeau); his daughter, Shanly (Adam) Cayer; his daughter-in-law, Janet McDermid; brother, Lyle (Lindi) McDermid; his grandchildren, Jorja, Emily, Shelby, and Garrison; and his honorary son, Shaun (Amy) Vlodarchyk.
He was predeceased by his parents, Esther (1993) and Albert (2003), and his beloved son, Ryan McDermid (2024).
As per Gary’s wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Road to Hope and/or Riverside Compassion House.
