It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Zahara. Gloria had a short courageous battle with cancer and passed away peacefully after a brief stay at the Athabasca Hospital on February 22nd, 2022 at the age of 63 years old.
Gloria was predeceased by her parents: John and Helen Shalapay; brothers: Bill (Jennifer) Shalapay, Andy Shalapay, Allan Shalapay; and sisters: Irene (John) Poynter and Lorraine Diesting.
She is survived by her husband: Lawrence Zahara; son: Justin Zahara; daughter: Lee (Nick) Deren; granddaughters: Brooke and Mya Deren; sisters: Mary (Frank) Speers, Sophie (Lanny) Woloncewich, Anne (Duane) Fotty, Amelia (Tim) Guenette, Helen Stychin; and countless nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Gloria was loved by all those who knew her, and leaves behind inspiration to live with kindness, love and selflessness for family, friends, and community.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, March 4th, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Athabasca Missionary Church with Pastor Al Plat officiating. Lunch to follow. Cremation has taken place at Athabasca Community Chapel. Gloria will be laid to rest at Holy Ghost Cemetery in Richmond Park at a later date.
